PHD Courses in Climate Change and Human Security

The Doctorate Research Programme on Climate Change and Human Security aims at building the climate change expertise of participants from West African countries in an inspiring, multi-disciplinary and intercultural learning environment. A special focus is laid on the capacity development of skills in Disaster and Human Contingency, Disaster Management and Public Health, Conflicts Trends in Africa and Human Security, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, Climate Change and Food Security, Societal and Economic Dimensions of Climate Change, Modeling Approach, Climate Change and Migration.

These skills will be highly relevant for policy-advice, public awareness building on climate change, as well as for the implementation of adaptation programs. The PhD in climate change Human Security graduates are prone to be more efficient to increase their chances of access to employment, as experts in the area of Climate variability and adaptation and community advice, as well as for civil society and donor organizations. The Programme benefit from a Local Advisory Board constituted of instructors of the University of Lomé. The board get involved in the selection of applicants and counselling throughout their training period. Besides this board, the DRP-CCHS Panel of Scientist constituted of instructors of High School of Agronomy equally looks into the thesis at the start of the Programme to the Defence.

CCHS PhD TARGET GROUPS AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The course will target selection of young academics with potential to work in one of the universities in the participating countries or research institutions from those countries. These applicants will be able at the end to fill positions in the universities of institutions from those countries. At the end of the course, these young academics turn young scientist eager to implement new methods of understanding and solving climate change issues. The graduate of the DRP-CCHS will be skilled and integrate the job market to occupy positions like scientific officers, climate disaster and risk management specialist, human security experts in the areas of natural resource management, environmental protection offices, NGOs, agronomic farming structures and universities.
